The Woodlands Texas, a master-planned community 28 miles north of Houston, was first established as a bedroom community, but soon found many major corporations clamoring for space as well. Corporate campuses for Chevron Phillips, Anadarko Petroleum, Baker Hughes, US Oncology, and Hewitt Associates can be found in The Woodlands. Currently, this census-designated place has a population of more than 90,000 residents after experiencing more than 68 percent growth since 2000. The Woodlands TX was dedicated in 1974 and managed by The Woodlands Corp. through most of the 1990s, then changing ownership several times. The original site was occupied by the Grogan-Cochran lumber mill.
